Welcome to the Membership Services page of the barnett.

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) is an organization of historians who study and promote knowledge of American history from the Reconstruction era through the aftermath of World War I. The society brings together academic, public, and independent historians, as well as scholars in other humanities and social-science disciplines interested in these decades and their issues. SHGAPE facilitates the exchange of ideas, information, and scholarship among those who work on the range of topics relevant to this time period and communicates knowledge and understanding of the era to a wider audience. It offers book and article prizes, publishes Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (JGAPE), sponsors sessions at the annual meetings of the American Historical Association and Organization of American Historians, and edits H-SHGAPE, an H-Net discussion list. Membership to SHGAPE includes a subscription to JGAPE, which publishes original research essays, discussions of major issues, and book reviews four times a year.
